Web Designer Ramblings - Photo of the Day

Well, the spring has just begun, and I can hardly wait for the explosion of color and life that it brings! I am eager to begin photographing my favorite subject, flowers, once again. I was shooting flowers indoors over the winter (one example shown above). However, it does not give the same level of joy as photographing flowers in their natural environment. Of course, you will see the fruits of my efforts here!

Web Designer Ramblings - Photo of the Day

One of my favorite pastimes is to wander rural roads looking for old relics that provide great photo opportunities. Here is one particularly exciting find. These decaying relics provide a colorful and dramatic theme against the background of a New Mexico landscape.

Web Designer Ramblings - Photo of the Day

The Turquoise Trail, Albuquerque, New Mexico. A beautiful scenic route from Santa Fe to Albuquerque with winding mountain roads and intriguing ghost towns en route.

I find that I am developing a deeper love for nature and all the beauty it contains as I get older. That may be a result of being in nature more often of late. It is quite humbling. As a web designer I am called upon to use my creativity to develop websites that are attractive and functional. The creative process is challenging and enjoyable for me. However, nothing I or any other designer can do matches the design and creativity evident in creation. It seems to be limitless. The use of color, form, contrast, light and other elements of design are unmatched in the hands of our creator. At best, I can only imitate and borrow from his work!

Simple & Cheap Content Management

Web design becomes more user-friendly as tools are produced that allows non-technical clients to do quick, simple website updates. Here is a tool that shows promise, especially for small-budget, simple websites. SnippetMaster is a free wysiwyg (What You See Is What You Get) content-editor tool for website owners who want a very easy, quick, and visual way to edit a pre-defined area on any web page through their browser without messing up the rest of the web page.

This tool is ideal for installing website editing capabilities on even the smallest websites. I will be testing this product very soon and will let you know the results!

Web-Design-Worthy Fonts

The web is full of free fonts for download. As any web designer can attest to, finding quality free fonts can be like finding a needle in a haystack. There is a lot of junk out there! Well, your search has just become much easier! This website contains a shortlist of links to well-designed fonts that are free to download. The author, an accomplished graphic designer in Germany, has chosen high quality fonts that can be used for headings or titles in web design, or, for graphic design in general. I find his taste in fonts excellent. Perhaps, you will too!
