What is Culturally Sensitive Web Design? It is WEB DESIGN that focuses on the aesthetic values of a specific cultural group. It is often said that the United States is a cultural melting pot. However, in truth, it is more like a cultural stew, where many different cultures lend to the overall flavor of the country while maintaining distinct values and interests. Designing for a specific culture requires an understanding not only of the craft of web design, but also of the cultural viewpoints and aesthetic values of your audience.

We were asked to design a website for a Dallas, Texas, Real Estate Agent with many clients of South American heritage. Sophisticated and well educated, they proudly reflect their cultural tastes in their home buying decisions. The bilingual website we designed uses color, images and layout in a way that strikes a familiar chord with her clients.

After consultation with our client, we carefully selected images that provide cultural cues rendered in sophisticated architectural themes. We also selected colors and settings that suggested the sun-splashed, tropical climates that are familiar to people of South American Heritage. The end result is web design that is clean and sophisticated, using attractive and tasteful cultural cues!
